To All d Dogs I Loved Before
June 12, 2006 by dryxanne
Yup, today’s all about DOGS!!! Its gonna be long, so bear it with me…
i always love dogs…puppies…all dogs, except those scary ones like Rottweiler…
know what present is guaranteed to fly me to heaven? a PUPPY!! or a DOG!! but too bad i dont have place to keep them, otherwise i wouldve slept with a dog since long time ago…
all my life, i always had dogs as pets, at least til i was 16…my first dog as i remembered (or should i say my family’s dog), was a dog named Jon. I dont know his type, dont know his original line back then, n i dont really remember how he looked like. He was my brother’s fave, he was a black thick fur dog, quite big size for a 4 year old girl to play with. He died, n thats the only picture in my head i stil keep about Jon. My fave was the other dog, a white n light brown dog named Ben. Ben was my buddy for 3 years. Everyday i came back from school, i would play with him (well now i cant remember Ben was female or male, but i’ll just assume its a male), danced around holding his front feet (dat my mom would call me crazy for dancing with dogs like dat…), but he played it along with me :) were happy moments we had…Then there was the big fire when i was 9 years old that destroyed main streets of our town, including my house. I didnt have a chance to save Ben, my dad tried to release him from his chain but he ran back into the house. They said Ben got caught in fire n died inside the house. I was too shocked to think about it. I was sad, but tried to forget it. I stil miss Ben sometimes now…
Moving to other city, i was staying at my grandma’s house. My grandparents had 2 sibling dogs, one female and d other male. But both named Oppie’. Very strange huh? Not to me. I liked d female one better, she was brown colored with short fur. Again, it was not some highly classed dog, just an ordinary "kampung" dog, but i loved her so much. I even forgave her when one day she wasnt feeling well, i tried to play with her n surprised her when suddenly she jumped at me angrily n leave a scar on my tummy. The scar is stil on my tummy til now. The other Oppie’, the black male one, died first, then the female one died later. One very funny thing i remembered about both d dogs, that one day i got a dog statue from an uncle, n the size is about as big as them. We had so much fun scaring both d dogs by carrying the statue chasing them n they would run around like crazy, angry at d dog statue but afraid to get closer to check…It was mean but the whole family laughed out on that…Those stupid dogs, but i loved them dearly…
After dat, we didnt have dogs for quite sometime. Until i was in Junior High, when suddenly one day my uncle went home with a new dog. This one was very unique. It’d already grown up, n i didnt know what his type back then, but he looked a bit similar to Golden Retriever. But then, he was not a nice dog, at least at first. He was separated from his mom, so i guess he was not happy about that. He never barked at first, was so quiet, n didnt want to eat. He didnt respond to all names we gave him, as if he had his own name already, which turned out true. My uncle went back to the town where he got d dog, asked d owner what was his name. D name was Doki. When we called him Doki, he finally wanted to give a look at us. What a proud dog! He stil wouldnt eat. We tried to feed him everything (except dog food, u see, people in small town seldom feed their dogs with dog food, we feed dogs with human food). But he rejected it by pushing the plate to the sewage line (we kept him at the back yard, and his cage was few metres near a sewage line) and turned over the plate and threw all d food into d sewage line, as if d food was not good enuf for him! My mom was angry at first but curious too, what would diz dog eat. She tried everything, n 1 day she found out dat Doki liked rice with fish! How weird! My mom would pour some fish soup with some fish n Doki ate like was served Royal Dog food..! And Doki didnt like salty food either. He liked it plain without any salt. Thats why his fur was very good. He was a very smart dog, at first he wouldnt eat or drink anything we gave him until he saw us eating it ourselves. Like i liked to give him some cakes i was eating but he wouldnt eat it til he saw me eating it too. But funniest was he liked ice blocks! One day i gave him an ice block, he sniffed at it, licked it a bit, shocked by the cold, then started to eat it. I could hear the ice crunched inside his mouth, n it was d happiest moment i had with him, coz it was like we then had shared a secret moment together, a secret habit hehe…coz i like to crunch ice blocks too…
Doki was not nice to strangers, once he knew all d family members, he was quite nice to us (especially to me coz i brought him out every morning), but not to d kids. Doki didnt like kids, thats why my younger brother didnt dare to get close to him. Also becoz when early days he arrived, some neighbours kids poked him through d backyard fence with some sticks, Doki was very angry, thats why he became dislike of kids…but he was never dangerous to my brother. He would just like stay away from kids and showed his fangs when any of d kids get closer to him. He got lost once too, when was taken out for afternoon ride by my uncle. He searched for Doki for a long time n got back wit no results. He was desperate already, thinking Doki must have been caught n get slayed by some people who eat dogs. But then, hey, Doki found his way back home (very astonishing…) n when my grandma saw him walking around near our home trying to find which house, she called his name n grabbed him by his collar n brought him back home.
We didnt have Doki for long. He died few months only after we had him. It was an accident n i was not even home. He was just bathed by my uncle, when my uncle told him to get up to his cage. He jumped up maybe in a rush, n fell of d wooden stair (his cage was 1 meter high n had few steps of wooden stair) n hurt his genital area. Died instantly. My mom said she heard his last cry, ran out to see what happened but it was too late. My uncle was very shocked. If he knew it he would just let him play in d yard.
After Doki, we tried to search for his similar type. Doki had this funny habit where he would lie on his tummy with his back feet facing up, like a human lying on our tummy. We had 2 more puppies with similar type of Doki but both died not long after we had them. One of them ( a brown one) was very funny, we called him Kiki. Everymorning when i woke up (he was kept in area near toilet), when i brushed my teeth, he would jump around my feet so happy to see me after all nite left alone.
After those 2 puppies, we once had another puppy (my dad bought it from some stranger passing by our house offering it for only 5 thousand IDR!). We called it Ndut coz he was fat puppy. Very cute one…but then died as well. Since then, my mom stopped it. She no longer wanted to keep any dogs in d house. She said no one to take care of them as d kids all went to other city for college. She said if ever she wants a dog, she would want it to be like Doki who was smart and well behaved. Doki was trained as guard dog for a warehouse before.
If only i have my own house, i would have dogs around. I love Siberian Husky, n German Shepperd. Retriever are sweet too. I once went to someone’s place where they had 2 Huskies, mommy n its boy. D mommy was quiet n sweet but d boy was a bit naughty but stil nice. He was kinda jealous (haha…) when was left outside house (he was chained on d terrace coz he was naughty they wont let him wandering around d house) n saw me rubbing his mom…he sounded out his jealousy with some funny noises…a sweet dog i wouldve kidnapped home if i could hehe…
I once met a Retriever at a hotel, n couldnt stop rubbing it. His name was Pluto, n like all retriever, Pluto was calm n nice even to strangers like me. He let himself rubbed n even sat down to get more rubs hehe…The next day i went to d hotel, Pluto wasnt there. There was a German Shepperd there but i didnt dare to get close though d guard said its nice dog too…
I love dogs so much but i cant have them now. I wish i could get my own house soon, n i wil have my own Retriever, Husky n Akita…And my husband (whoever that will be) must love dogs too hehe…or at least doesnt hate dogs enuf to let me keep some dogs in d house…
To all d Dogs in my life previously, i love u all so much, you were d best friends through my growing time…
surprise! surprise!
and Ms. Chan loves dogs too!
if i have known you before, i’d be proposing to you this instant. (naah…)
we share somethings in common here.
but your choice, Huskies and Akitas?
i actually never met or know anybody in indonesia that kept that race of dogs.
but nothing beats having a Rottweiler or a Doberman as a home pet. more fearsome than (human) security personnel and you could play with them too.
