Typical Indonesian Style - Copycat
November 20, 2006 by dryxanne
I was watching TV, while was waiting for my flight to depart. And there I saw a programme on one particular TV station of Indonesia. And I was thinking, OMG, OMG…
Is the TV station lack of ideas, or they got a license from similar programme on a foreign TV Station???
So, I will continue this blog, under the assumption that they lack of ideas. Yes, because I am a very negative thinking person, and yes, because I generalize things based on previous cases, because this is not the first time a TV station sort of copycat a successful programme. So, if I make a wrong accusation, I will make a written apologize through this blog, later when I see any proof that prove me wrong of accusing they copycat.
So, the program was about MAKE OVER. To make over someone’s appearance. Basically, they pick someone who sent a request to be madeover, and then they give a treatment to the person. This morning it was a girl. They dressed her up, gave her a new haircut and make up style. The show even showed when the hosts went shopping, and the fashion stylist explained what they did to the girl, what she lacked of on her appearance, and how good the girl turned out.
Funny was, they said the girl looked older than her age, with her unsuitable make up and dress. Apart from her lipstick color that DID make her look old, and totally NOT CHIC, I would say, there was nothing wrong with her look. Well she wasn’t exactly a chic, fashionably aware, or a stylish girl, but she didn’t look bad. Then they turned her,and gave her make up that to my opinion made her ACTUALLY look older than her age and said that THEN she looked suitable to her age. Ridiculous.
Do you get the feeling that this programme sounds similar? Probably because you saw it somewhere on foreign TV Station.
The problem with our TV station trying to copycat other foreign TV Stations’ programme is, they don’t do it impressively, that triggers a sense that they don’t do it seriously. They try to present a concept that Make Over doesn’t necessarily cost you a lot. Well, that makes sense, but I don’t think the female host’s acts of bargain were necessary to be shown in the show, and her acts weren’t very convincing either. There was no point of showing those parts, other than to fill in the time, which I personally would prefer to be filled with how the make up artist create a new look, in details. Or how the hair stylist created a new hair cut, how and why. That would be more interesting, and isn’t that the main point of such show?
Actually I had a whole lot of other things to criticize, but I will stop it here. Enough already, I think.
Don’t you just get sick of those kinds of ‘copycat’ programmes?
i dont.
regarding copycat programs, you can simply turn off the tv, switch to other channel, or looking away.
nobody asked you to watch the programme anyway.
and surely nobody force you into doing it.
thats why i gave up watching television except for hard news.
yeah,well…
first, the situation was, i was in waiting room, not possible to change the channel.
second, yeah, i already gave up watching tv, but lately i began again, just coz im a hypocrite :)) i still like watching sinetrons with young actors and actresses, but that coz i dont know they copycat from Korean series too…anyway, that was just for passing time…
