Numbers, figures, 1 2 3…
Yup!
Today is all about numbers!
Call me superstitious or what, although I’m not. You may get that impression after you read this, though I would say that what I’m about to write is merely because I have this weird thing in my brain to jump from one thing to another fast, with little or no connection in between those things, merely just because I suddenly remember of some things after recalling some other things.
Confused?
Naturally.
Well, if you still feel like to read, keep going, if you don’t, then just hit other button, go browse some more interesting stuffs.
About numbers, there are some things. I would just list them down, things that run across my mind in very fast stream when I thought of "numbers" just few minutes ago :
1. Number 99 : the company I work for, just celebrated its 99th years of existence of its product in this country. (Note that I wrote : existence of its product, not : existence of this company). And the celebration took place 14 Dec 2006, the same date I wrote my 99th blog post. Coincidence, eh?
2. Last night, at a friend’s place, I watched "Will & Grace", in which there was guest appearance by Janet Jackson, and she messed up everything with her dancers, just because she wanted to have 5 dancers instead of 6 dancers, just because she "felt connection between 5 and Jackson". Later on, she went to 4 instead, because "4 is much more mystical.."
3. Why do I have mostly number 7 in both my cellphones’ numbers? I insist I’m not being superstitious, but my brother did say something about choosing 7 as lucky number, and it keeps ringing everytime I changed my cellphones numbers. But personally, 5 is my favourite, simply because it’s the number of my birth date.
4. And don’t forget 9. Chinese likes the "9". And remember the year 1999? Where everything was connected to that crazy number, and Chineses in the whole world think that the pronunciation of "9" is indeed similar to "long" that is often used as companion ("99") to the word "forever". Thus symbolizes good thing that will exist forever. But what isn’t being connected to numbers IN THAT WAY by Chinese?? Everything is. Read point no. 5
5. When I was in the elevator at my friend’s apartment’s building, I noticed that the numbers of the floors don’t have any "4". No 4th Floor, no 14 Floor, no 13th Floor naturally, no 24 Floor, no 34th Floor. I guess simply because "4" in Chinese sounds similar to "die" or "dead", thus in FengShui it’s considered bad number. So…does the developer of the building believe in that? Or that the developer doesn’t believe in that but they make it anyway because their target market is for Chinese and others that believe in that number superstition? This could be a whole new blog post…
6. I always make mistake of remembering one of my friend’s birthday. His birthday is December 9th, and I always forget it. Years ago I made a note and although in my mind I thought it was Dec 9th, but I wrote it Dec 12th. And today I just remembered again, and called him to wish a very belated birthday…
7. AND, I just hit the number "100" of my total blog posts, by this post, and this post is the one discussing about numbers, and should I mention that the company I work for is about to celebrate its 100th years of existence of its product in this country, next year, which is coming in another 11 days?
I guess…it’s about enough for numbers today.
