:: Schmap: Stockholm Photo Short-list
Hi Dryxanne’s Views,
I am writing to let you know that one of your photos has
been short-listed for inclusion in the fourth edition of
our Schmap Stockholm Guide, to be published later this
month.
While we offer no payment for publication, many
photographers are pleased to submit their photos, as Schmap
Guides give their work recognition and wide exposure, and
are free of charge to readers. Photos are published at a
maximum width of 150 pixels, are clearly attributed, and
link to high-resolution originals at Flickr.
Our submission deadline is Sunday, January 20. If you
happen to be reading this message after this date, please
still click on the link above (our Schmap Guides are
updated frequently - photos submitted after this deadline
will be considered for later releases).
Best regards,
Emma Williams,
Managing Editor, Schmap Guides
Happy?
DEFINITELY..!!
I mean, eventhough this is just a shortlisted, on some online guide that I’ve never heard before (but apparently quite famous? I saw some comments from Washington Post and TIME, and International Herald Tribune on the lower part of the website page), I’m extremely excited and happy that of those pictures I posted in Flickr, which were viewed by less than 10 people I think, one of them would actually get noticed and shortlisted to be considered to appear in an online map guide for Stockholm in Sweden!
And you know what?
The picture was one of my less fave! Here it is :
It’s a fountain in Ostermalm, an area I passed by when I was looking for subway station which should be located somewhere near there (found it across the small park in which the fountain located). It was a quick snap, notice that it was not perfectly horizontal, I was too near the fountain to take the full circle of it, and was in such a hurry to catch the train that I didn’t have time to walk back and fix the angle. When I received the email above, I was so curious WHICH picture they meant, and a series of other (much better) pics flashed through my mind.
Yet, it was shortlisted! ( I can’t stop smiling hehehe…)
The only thing I kinda regret a bit is my excitement has made me stupid enough to not pay full attention to the column where I was expected to either let the attribution stays as "Dryxanne’s Views" (which is actually a name I gave to my group of pictures in Flickr), or to change it to my name (Linda Chan). And it ended up as "Dryxanne’s Views".
So if that pic ever get to be appeared in that Schmap, it would appear with caption below it : Picture by Dryxanne’s Views.
It would look, and sound, weird, wouldn’t it? Haha…
But, it’s perhaps my BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT so far..! Considering that the picture was taken just by a Sony Ericsson cellphone, in a hurry! I mean, pictures I took all this time, were just based on such a hobby that is not paid high attention for, I’ve never even bought a descent camera yet.
If only it’s a polling, I would surely contact anyone I know to vote for me haha…But it’s not. So I can just hope that it would make it to really appear in the guide, which according to the email, will be published sometime end of January 2008.
We’ll see
Meanwhile, I’m happy enough that somewhere, somehow, some people actually notice and consider to appreciate one of the pictures I’ve taken
